Overview
Dedicated biomass stations and converted coal plants burn wood pellets or residues. Combined heat and power improves overall fuel use where heat is needed. Air-quality controls are essential.
How it works
Fuel is prepared, burned in a boiler, and the steam cycle follows conventional practice. Some plants use fluidized beds. Biogas plants instead digest wet wastes and burn methane in engines.
