Overview
Utility turbines place a large rotor on a tubular tower. Pitch control regulates power. Yaw keeps the rotor into the wind. Direct-drive and geared drivetrains both exist.
How it works
Lift on aerofoil blades produces torque. A generator, often with power electronics, feeds the collector system of a farm.
