How Electricity Is Generated
Most electricity still comes from spinning generators. Inverters now add solar, wind, and batteries to the mix.

A thermal plant is a heat engine plus a generator: coal, gas, nuclear, geothermal, CSP, and biomass all raise a working fluid. Hydro and wind are prime movers without a boiler. PV has no turbine at all. Grids must accept whatever mix is connected and still keep frequency near the setpoint.
