Hydrogen stores energy that was already paid for in electricity or fossil fuel. It is a medium, not a mine.

Electrolysis can be low-carbon if the electricity is. Steam methane reforming is cheaper today and emits carbon dioxide unless captured. Use hydrogen where chemistry or long-duration storage justifies the conversion losses, not as a universal replacement for electrons in wires.
