Batteries on the Grid
Lithium-ion batteries provide fast, short-duration storage. They are not a universal substitute for generation.
Overview
Grid batteries deliver frequency response, peak shifting for a few hours, and solar smoothing. Duration, materials, fire safety, and recycling set the envelope. Flow batteries and other chemistries target longer duration but are less deployed.
